Our name “Buzz” stems from the role that we are trying to accomplish as a website-based organization. Just like a bee helps two distanced flowers to pollinate and produce seeds, Buzz aims to be a bridge between high school students who are learning music and parts of local community that do not have access to live music performance. With local high schools and institutions (such as hospitals, orphanages, prisons, and senior centers) registering, Buzz verifies and facilitates the planning process for the live performance to occur. And as a result of the “buzz” (a feeling of excitement) through performances, we vision a production of a stronger community with musical bonding.

The acronym of our core values CRESC stands for “crescendo,” a musical term for increasing the loudness or intensity of sound. With CRESC, Buzz hopes to communicate and achieve our mission and vision with magnitude.

LEADERSHIP
Suzie Choi, a current student at Duke University. She is the founder and the Executive Director of Buzz. Suzie’s interest in community service through music grew as she actively engaged as a passionate flutist and a treasurer of the Tri-M Music Honor Society in her high school. Furthermore, Suzie developed her skills in business and social entrepreneurship through courses, summer programs, and clubs. Combining these two areas, Suzie established Buzz in hopes of students and community members to feel the “buzz” through live music performances.
PARTNERS
Tri-M Music Honor Society is a high school and middle school music honor society. A common mission shared between Tri-M and Buzz has allowed a meaningful partnership to form and serve the community with music. Tri-M chapters in Durham high schools are encouraged to use Buzz to facilitate their live music performance services at local institutions.
Durham Medical Orchestra is an orchestra composed of health-related professionals, medical and graduate students of the life sciences, and community members. The profit from performances is donated to local organizations related to health including Buzz. In turn, Buzz assists the orchestra’s mission by providing opportunities to enjoy live performances to other beneficiary organizations.
